Until recently, cannabis had a negative connotation. Even some of us as children were flooded with reports of it being a “gateway drug” that would surely lead to the use of more harmful substances such as cocaine or heroin. Thankfully, in recent years, the negative stigma that surrounded cannabis for so long is deteriorating and, finally, it is being recognized for both the physical health and mental health benefits it provides.
When most people hear the word “cannabis”, many thoughts automatically turn to marijuana and its psychoactive effects. However, not all cannabis is created equal. Fool.com carefully, yet simply, explains the difference between the marijuana varietal and the hemp varietal.
Marijuana is the dried flower of the female cannabis plant that is derived from either the cannabis indica or the cannabis sativa plants. Hemp, however, is derived solely from the cannabis sativa plant. They differ in appearance, as marijuana has broader, bushier leaves and hemp has shinier, thinner leaves.
Undoubtedly, the major difference between marijuana and hemp is the level of THC; the psychoactive element in cannabis. Depending on the strain or marijuana, THC levels can be as high as 30%, whereas the THC levels in hemp are less than 0.3%. The main cannabinoid in hemp is CBD; a non-psychoactive chemical also found in marijuana, but overshadowed by its high levels of THC. Also, unlike marijuana, hemp is versatile and has alternative uses. Because hemp grows quickly and contains strong fibers it has been used for industrial purposes. It has been used to manufacture rope, clothing, sails and paper products.
We are very fortunate to live in a society now that is more open to the research, use and sale of cannabis products. Ignorance wasn’t bliss when it came to the criminalization of cannabis in the United States. We, at Care By Hemp, care deeply about the history of the product that we are so passionate about, and want to share it with our customers.
As a way to find new sources of revenue after the end of the alcohol prohibition the 1930s, Federal Bureau of Narcotics secretary, Harry Anslinger, launched propaganda campaigns aimed at criminalizing cannabis by associating its use with the misconduct of minorities, specifically African-Americans. His published articles were both dishonest and racist. Unfortunately, his efforts were somewhat successful and some restrictions were imposed on cannabis. However, it wasn’t until President Richard Nixon’s War on Drugs in the 1970s that cannabis was officially criminalized; both marijuana and hemp, even though hemp has nearly no THC.
Luckily, more than 40 years later, The Farm Bill of 2014 gave states the power to control the possession, production and sale of hemp products and, as a result, hemp and CBD became legal in most states. The Farm Bill of 2018 officially removed hemp and CBD from the list of controlled substances by disconnecting hemp from marijuana and legalizing it nationwide. Now….here we are!
We at Care By Hemp make it our mission to provide premium CBD products to our customers. What makes us stand out is that we pride ourselves on offering organic CBD products that are free of GMOs, pesticides, herbicides and solvents. Our premium CBD products are third party lab tested, contain no psychoactive cannabinoids, and are offered in a variety of flavors.
There are a lot of companies out there that are simply trying to cash in on what they see as a new trend and their product ends up being sub-par. In order to sell more product, they decrease the concentration of CBD by diluting it will fillers such as oil or lotion and then sell it at a deep discount. This is not an effective way to reap the benefits that CBD has to offer. Only premium CBD products, such as those that we offer, will provide the mental and physical benefits that come with the proper production and use of CBD products.
To get the most out of CBD, be a smart shopper. An article published by the Arthritis Foundation, offers thoughts to keep in mind while shopping for CBD products. Most CBD products in the United States are unregulated, which, in turn, leads to a lack of quality control. When researching, be sure to look for products that are both grown and made in the United States. They go on to suggest that you should look for companies that test in independent laboratories for safety, purity, and potency, such as ours.
At Care By Hemp, we are CAREful with our process and we CARE about your needs. We are confident that any of our premium CBD products will give you all of the mental, physical, and self-care benefits that you deserve.
